PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cholinesterase inhibitor or its prodrug as a medicinal material for treating schizophrenia, especially the schizophrenia of an emotional or a schizoaffective type. SOLUTION: This medicinal composition is an acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor, preferably galanthamine or its derivative, which selectively acts against substantially nicotinic receptor site and has a higher selectivity to acetyl cholinesterase than the butyryl cholinesterase.
