PURPOSE: An optical disk and a disk information recording method of the optical disk are provided to record disk information as standardized information, and to effectively record information on the kind of a disk within the disk information, then to efficiently carry out a recording/reproducing process of the optical disk from the recorded information on the kind of the disk. CONSTITUTION: Information for distinguishing the kind of disks is recorded within disk information. The kind of the disks is distinguished, depending on whether protective coating films exist in the disks. If the protective coating films exist, the kind of the protective coating films is classified. One kind of the protective coating films is used for preventing scratches. Another kind of the protective coating films is used for preventing a finger-print process. Another kind of the protective coating films is used for preventing both scratches and finger-print process.
