A system and method that allows dynamic updating of a static email message by maintaining the status of the content of the email message on a server and remotely serving images or stylesheets relaying the current status to a user s email client when the static email digest is displayed. Other applications of the system and method include, but are not limited to, updating the status of online message board postings contained in an email digest once the original poster has accomplished what was requested in the posting, so he will not subsequently be contacted about the post by users reading the email digest.
