PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming an image for thermal recording capable of forming a high contrast, high resolution and clear image by the thermal recording and suppressing deterioration of the surface of the thermal recording medium as much as possible. SOLUTION: In this method of recording an image, a heat generating head consisting of a laser light emitting section 3 and a photothermal converter 6 provided in a printer is brought into contact with the surface of the thermal recording medium 1 without providing a photothermal conversion mechanism in the photothermal/recording medium. A heat generation obtained by emitting a laser light to perform the photothermal conversion is used as a thermal stimulation to the thermal recording medium 1 or a reversible thermal recording medium.
