In the operation of apparatus for continuously false-twist crimping synthetic yarns or continuous filaments and, optionally, modifying the resultant bulk properties thereof, a multiplicity of running crimped yarns &c is heated mainly, if not entirely, by convection through a gaseous medium e.g. circulating air, within a single enclosed chamber which the yarns &c enter and leave through inlet and outlet apertures in opposite end walls thereof in such manner than they travel separately without contact therebetween and in spaced relationship to the walls of the chamber. The, first, heating device which precedes the falsetwister in the direction of yarn &c travel may be an electrical resistance the heating effect of which may vary along its length and over, through and/or in contact with which the yarns &c travel individually or in groups, or it may be a convection heater similar to the second such heater but providing a reduced, 60-80%, length of yarn heating zone. If the bulk modifying treatment is not required then the yarns by-pass the second heater and are fed directly to winding apparatus by displaceable guides and delivery mechanism. Yarns supplied from a creel to the apparatus are positioned in relation to the first heater by a device carried in vertically adjustable manner by a guided, manipulating mechanism. Each yarn &c may be threaded through the convection heater by a weight attached to the end thereof and dropped through aligned inlet and outlet apertures to impinge on a baffle plate which is pivotable into the yarn path and inclined, e.g. 45‹ to the direction thereof.</p> |
