Cleaning unit for sugar beet harvester - passes roots between rotary grilles with intermediate roller to effect change of direction

The sugar beet harvester cleaning unit removes adhering soil and comprises an initial rotary grille (1) in the form of a horizontal drum (2). The roots pass over a curved grid (3) and upwards to meet the intersecting arms of a second rotary grille (6) to similar to the first. At this point the roots are prevented from rising further and pass down and around the second rotary griller, over another curved grid (8). This changed of direction is caused by the intermediate roller (4) positioned between the rotary grilles, the roller having longitudinal projections to assist its action.
