PURPOSE:To obtain a crosslinkable polymer, containing a specific amount of specific functional groups linked to the backbone chain consisting of carbon- carbon bonds, having improved water resistance and suitable for coating material resins, etc., by homopolymerizing a compound having a specific structural formula or copolymerizing with another polymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:A compound, obtained by reacting an acyl isocyanate compound expressed by formula I (R' is lower alkyl) with a compound expressed by formula II [X is a group expressed by formulas IIIRnV (R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl; n is 3-5)] and expressed by formula VI (R is H or lower alkyl) is homopolymerized or copolymerized with another polymerizable monomer, e.g. styrene, etc., in the presence of a solvent, preferably pentane, etc., using a polymerization initiator, e.g. azobisisobutyronitrile, etc., to afford the aimed crosslinkable polymer of 1,000-100,000mol.wt. with 1.0-92wt% content of functional groups, having a bicyclo or spiro structure expressed by formula VII and linked to the backbone chain consisting of carbon-carbon bonds.
