<p>A mesomorphic compound represented by the following formula (I): <CHEM> wherein R1 and R2 respectively denote an alkyl group having 1 - 16 carbon atoms optionally substituted; X1 and X3 respectively denote a single bond, -O-, <CHEM> X2 denotes a single bond, <CHEM> A1 denotes a single bond <CHEM> <CHEM> A3 denotes <CHEM> <CHEM> A2 denotes 9, 10-dihydro-2,7-phenanthrenediyl, 2,7-fluorenediyl or 2,7-fluorenonediyl; n is 0 or 1; and X4 and X5 respectively denote hydrogen, F, Cl, Br, -CH3, -CN or -CF3, with proviso that X1 is a single bond when A1 is a single bond.</p> |
