<p>The two pivoted metal lancesa attached to the stern of the skip and carrying a strong textile fabric, enclose a large flat zone open at the bow and funnelling down to the stern, where the crude oil is concentrated and sucked up by pump (9) through pipe (8). The lances are attached by steel cables (6) in conjunction with a hydraulic ram (2) of the bow and a gate (4,5) adjustable to the width of the ship, which anchors the lances to the hull.
