PURPOSE:To lessen the polishing unevenness and improve the flatness by forming a dummy coating in the area except an effective display region of a substrate and then polishing the surface of a color filter. CONSTITUTION:A black matrix 13 among picture elements and a black matrix 14 in the area except an effective display region are formed by patterning by photolithographic method using a black pigment (carbon) dispersed photo- sentive resin. Next, the surfaces of color picture elements 11 are formed by an Oscar single face polisher. Then, the surfaces of the color picture elements 11 are polished by the Oscar single face polisher. In this way, polishing the color picture elements 11 in the outer circumference is suppressed, so that the sagging of the surfaces of the color picture elements 11 in the most outer circumference of the effective display area is prevented and polishing unevenness of the color picture elements 11 within the area can be made small. |
