Beta-aminonitriles and N-alkyl-1,3-propylenediamines as well as their use as fuel and lubricant additives

beta -Aminonitriles of the following formula I in which R<1> is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having alkyl side groups and a molecular weight (number average) of from 250 to 5000 and R<2>, R<3> and R<4> independently of one another are hydrogen or a C1-C8-alkyl radical, and R<2> or R<4> can also be a phenyl radical, and alkylpropylenediamines prepared from the beta -aminonitriles by hydrogenation, and the use of these compounds as additives in motor fuels and lubricants.
