PURPOSE: To detect a self-position from a signal received with a mobile station by setting a stationary station and the mobile station at a different level, and transmitting a signal of acute directivity from the stationary station after modulation by use of positional information related to the destination of the signal. CONSTITUTION: A laser beam to be sent from a stationary station 1 is changed to directional information indicating an emitting direction through an angular information conversion circuit 9, and coded with an angular information coding device 10. Also, the beam is modulated with a modulator 3b and scanned with a scanner 11 for transmission. Regarding the directional information, an angleθdeparting from an X-axis on a plane covering a mobile station 2 is used, together with an angleθdeparting from a Z-axis including the stationary station 1. The mobile station 2 receives the laser beam and performs the detection thereof with a photo detector 20. Then, the station 2 demodulates the beam with a demodulator 21. As a result, the position of the station 2 can be identified on the basis of demodulated data, the coordinates of the station 1 preliminary saved in the station 2, and a height difference (Z1-Z2) between the stations 1 and 2.
