PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic granular body having excellent durability, water resistance and chemical resistance while keeping the large surface area, the high adsorptivity of organic matter and the optical activity, of photocatalytic particulates, a method for recovering the function of the granular body and an apparatus for decomposing/removing toxic organic matter by using the granular body and the method. SOLUTION: This pellet-shaped or tablet-shaped photocatalytic granular body is obtained by compression-molding a photocatalytic mixture containing photocatalytic particles and a filler in air or an inert gas of 500-6,000 kg/cm<2> pressure or in vacuum at 0-200 deg.C in 0.01-60 seconds. The surface of the photocatalytic granular body is coated with alkaline slurry. This method for recovering the function of the granular body comprises a step to clean the slurry-applied surface of the granular body with the alkaline slurry on an alkali solution of sodium hydroxide. In this apparatus, toxic organic matter is decomposed/removed by bringing the granular body into contact with the toxic organic matter in a liquid or a gas and irradiating the granular body with the light having <=400 nm wave length. |
