This method monitors the filling of a tank (10) with a liquified gas (12). The temperature and the volume of the liquified gas in the tank are determined, and its mass is derived from these values. The tank may be filled as described, with appropriate instrumentation, including level measurement. A processor derives the mass contained, and preferably delivers a warning signal, when a limiting value is reached
