PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein an image quality defect is hardly caused even though the liquid crystal display device is provided with a peripheral light shielding layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with a first substrate 7, a first electrode 10 provided on the first substrate 7, the peripheral light shielding layer 12 provided at the peripheral part of the surface of the first substrate 7, on which the first electrode 10 is provided, a first alignment layer 13 with which the surface of the first electrode 10 and the peripheral light shielding layer 12 of the first substrate 7 is coated, a second substrate 15 opposed to the first alignment layer 13, a second electrode 16 provided on the surface opposed to the first alignment layer 13 of the second substrate 15, a second alignment layer 17 with which the surface of the second electrode 16 of the second substrate 15 is coated and a liquid crystal layer 4 interposed between the first alignment layer 13 and the second alignment layer 17. The device 1 is characterized in that at least part of a first part of the first alignment layer 13, with which the peripheral light shielding layer 12 is coated and which comes in contact with the liquid crystal layer 4, is thicker than a second part of the first alignment layer 13, which is positioned on the first electrode 10. |
