A straining grid in a water channel, is cleaned by a horizontal comb, the teeth of which are forced between the vertical bars of the grid in an upstream direction, and which is then drawn up to a point where the debris may be discharged into a collector. The comb is swung in during downward travel, or a pivoting arm, guided by castors which are diverted by a deflecting plate into 'U' section runners downstream of the vertical runners which guide the comb during upward travel; travel is actuated by a rack and pinion mechanism. Pref. e.g. alternate grid bars are truncated for 1/3 of their height, to provide a by-pass in the event of blockage of grid.
|
