The projectile (1), comprising a body (3) with a detonator cavity (7) and a first seal ring (10) round its outer casing (9), has a second seal ring (11) behind the first, surrounding the cavity. The axial distance between the two seal rings is such that the pressure between the rings is equivalent to 30 - 70 per cent of the maximum pressure acting on the rear part (5) of the projectile body as it travels along the gun barrel. The second seal ring is made from an elastic material such as rubber or a plastic elastomer shaped to fit against the projectile's pressure zone (13), e.g. by injection moulding, and has a rear air pocket (14). |
