PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic rotary encoder capable of preventing the deterioration of detection precision by a magnetic substance even when usage is performed under an environment where the magnetic substance leaks from the outside. SOLUTION: The magnetic rotary encoder is provided with a magnetic sensor 2 for detecting magnetic flux change as a pulse, and a rotating body 1 alternating continuously arranging an N pole 1A and an S pole 1B on the surface opposed to the magnetic sensor 2. Projection parts 3 projected to the side of the magnetic sensor 2 more than the N pole 1A and the S pole 1B are provided on the boundary part of the N pole 1A and the S pole 1B.
