PLANAR LIGHTWAVE CIRCUIT(PLC) PACKAGE USING METAL-COATED OPTICAL FIBER AND METHOD OF PACKAGING THE SAME PLC

A PLC package using a metal-coated optical fiber and a method of packaging the PLC are provided to maintain a constant operation characteristic of the PLC by fixing a metal-coated portion of the optical fiber on an optical fiber fixing structure. A PLC(Planar Lightwave Circuit) package includes a PLC(120), an optical fiber(180) and an optical fiber fixing structure(140). The PLC is coupled with an optical element case. The optical fiber is connected to the PLC. A predetermined portion of the optical fiber is coated using a metal. The optical fiber fixing structure is coupled with the optical element case and fixes the metal-coated portion of the optical fiber. A V-groove is formed on the PLC. The optical fiber is connected to the V-groove by using a UV(Ultra-Violet) ray or a thermosetting epoxy.
