An apparatus and a method for compensating a broadcast signal in a broadcast receiver are provided to allow a broadcast receiver to detect the strength of a broadcast signal and transmit a message indicating that the signal is good or bad to a broadcast station and the broadcast station to check the received message and compensate the strength of the broadcast signal of an area where reception state is not good. A detector(311) generates a detect signal according to a state of a broadcast signal received through a tuner(30). A modem(36) is connected with broadcast stations via a network. When the detect signal is lower than a previously stored reference level, a microcomputer(33) controls to transmit a message indicating that the sensitivity of the signal is not good to a corresponding broadcast station. When the detect signal is lower than the reference level, the microcomputer(33) outputs and displays a broadcast reception state on a screen.
