PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier core material capable of obtaining a stable image characteristic, without generating cracking and chipping of a particle, even when repeating development for a long period, and a carrier for a two component type electrophotographic developer using the carrier core material. SOLUTION: This carrier core material for the electrophotographic developer comprises a magnetite and a manganese ferrite, and is manufactured to make a wustite phase (FeO phase) exist with 1μm or more to 10μm or less in thickness on a surface.
