PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device in which a moving subject can be focused, while tracking it in a wide image plane area. SOLUTION: The imaging device includes a tracking means that moves a particular tracking area so that the tracking area coincides with the image of the subject; a focal point detecting means that detects the focused state of the image of the subject within the tracking area; a setting means that sets the time interval, at which the focal point detecting means detects the focused state; and an adjustment means that adjusts the time interval, based on the change in time needed for the focal point detection means to detect the focused state.
