PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a journal bearing apparatus having a semicircular bearing section for preventing jump-up of a rotor shaft, and sufficiently supplying lubricant to a bearing surface of the semicircular bearing section, and a rotary machine provided with the journal bearing apparatus.SOLUTION: A journal bearing apparatus comprises: a carrier ring; at least two bearing pads; a plurality of nozzles head; and at least one semicircular bearing section. The plurality of nozzle heads include a most downstream nozzle head placed upstream of the semicircular bearing section in a rotation direction of a rotor shaft and placed closest to the semicircular bearing section, and the most downstream head has at least one nozzle hole that can deliver lubricant in a range in which the semicircular bearing section is present in an axial direction of the carrier ring.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
