<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form the image of a test patch for controlling density at the trailing edge of an image to be formed in the midst of forming the image on recording paper even when the peripheral length of an intermediate transfer body is shortened in an image forming apparatus equipped with a rotary developing device. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is equipped with an image forming means for switching and performing two-sheet sticking control and one-sheet sticking control, a test patch image forming means for performing processing to form the image of the test patch in the developing color of the image to be formed at the trailing edge of the image to be formed in each printing color in the midst of forming the image on the intermediate transfer body by the image forming means, and a density control means for controlling density so that the density of the developed image may be previously set density based on the detected result by detecting the toner density of the formed image of the test patch by using a sensor. Then, the processing of the test patch image forming means is performed when the image forming means performs the one-sheet sticking control to recording material having size that the two-sheet sticking control is possible.
