PURPOSE:To keep off any offensive noise, by making a lifter so as to geo up to the extent of the specified position rapidly when the number of sheets in a cassette is less than the specified quantity at the time of closing motion of a cassette cover. In case of a cassette type sheet supply and feed device for a copying machine or the like. CONSTITUTION:When a sheet is supplied to a cassette C, if a sheet upper face is more topper than a through hole C7, a sheet detecting device (unillustrated herein) detects its presence, whereby a lifter 12 goes up at normal speed, making the sheet upper face contact with a paper roller 7. And, when there is no sheet up to a position of the through hole C7, a cam 33 is rotated by operation of the sheet detecting device via a supporting shaft 32, making the lifter 12 go up rapidly, and the sheet upper face is made so as to cut off the through hole C7. Afterward, the lifter 12 goes up at normal speed till the sheet comes into contact with the paper feed roller 7. With this constitution, an offensive noise is preventable.
