The swivel clamp head at one end of a bar is powered axially from within a housing and can be swung round through a limited angle in response to a friction element engaged with the drive spindle nut. A locking slide (1) guided radially to the bar axis (2) in a bar recess should have two ends which project beyond the bar from opposite ends to engage alternately at axial endpoints in guide links (3) fixed to the housing over the swing angle. The links consist of 90 deg. offset axial grooves (8) which have spiral, 180 deg. offset radial recesses at one end as well as a radial cylindrical recess. One recess lies between the grooves (8) and cylindrical groove is offset 90 deg. clockwise to the two spiral recesses. Wedge faces (10) in the housing (19) move the slide (1) in the bar end positions to allow the bar to revolve. USE/ADVANTAGE - Machine tools. Clamp is powered by reversible electric motor for clamp and release settings in the absence of hydraulic power facility.
