PURPOSE:To exhibit high mechanical strength and to attain excellent biological affinity by providing a coating layer formed by ceramics which can generate a calcium phosphate group compound by the contact with a phosphorus- containing water solution. CONSTITUTION:A composite implant comprises an implant base material and non-phosphorus calcium group ceramics for coating it. The implant base material is not limited especially as far as it is harmless to a living body and excellent in strength. For example, metal such as Ti, W, Ni, Cr, Fe-Cr-Al, Ti-Zr, Fe-Ni-Cr, Mo, Ti-Al-V, Co-Cr-Mo, Ti-Mo, Co-Cr-Ni, stainless steel SUS304, 310, 316 and so on, alumina, zirconia, silica carbide, tungsten carbide, silica nitride and so on, glass such as bioglass or the like and plastics are used. Among the above, pure Ti and a titanium alloy are preferably in view of strength and stability. Non-phosphorus calcium group ceramics contains CaO and SiO2 as essential components, and the ratio of CaO to SiO2 is in a range from 1;4 to 6:1 by weight ratio, preferably from 1:3 to 2:1. |
