PURPOSE: To automate tool replacement by providing a sleeve slidably in the direction of a spindle axis, mounting a number of gripper arms that hold a tool holder, in such a manner that the arms are arranged separately around the spindle, and inserting a tool into the receiving part of the spindle from a magazine by means of the gripper arms. CONSTITUTION: When a tool holder 14 is in a magazine position and a piston 37 is drawn in a cylinder 38, the cone 13 of the tool holder 14 is inserted through a lower open hole 39 into a gap 40 provided in a quill 41. The longitudinal axis 15 of the quill 41 is then parallel to the axis 16 of a spindle 11. When the piston 37 is advanced, a sleeve 29 falls in the direction of the arrow 30 and the cone 13 of the tool holder 14 is located below the lower edge of the spindle 11. As the piston 37 further advances, rods 23, 24 rotate downward to vertical positions and the tool holder 14 coincides with the axis 16 of the spindle 11. Then the sleeve 29 is raised again to insert the cone 13 of the tool holder 14 into the receiving chamber 12 of the spindle 11 and to lock the holder 14 to a collet chuck. |
