摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for water treatment which is obtained by using highly hydrophilic polyvinyl alcohol, has an easily controllable specific gravity, exhibits high fluidity and durability, efficiently deposites microorganisms thereon and achieves efficient water treatment, and to provide a method for manufacturing the carrier and an apparatus for water treatment. <P>SOLUTION: A void forming organic compound capable of removing oil is compounded with polyvinyl alcohol or its modified product. Then, the polyvinyl alcohol or its modified product is physically gelled, for example, by freezing and defrosting method and/or a gelling agent is reacted with the polyvinyl alcohol or its modified product to chemically gel. After gelling or during gelling at least in the state of maintaining the shape of the polyvinyl alcohol or its modified product, the void forming organic compound is removed, for example, by eluting with warm water to obtain the carrier 4 for water treatment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p>
