PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for a fuel cell which can be structured with metal easy to obtain and comparatively cheap and which can exert a catalytic function as high as or higher than platinum.
SOLUTION: A fuel cell, with an ion exchange membrane arranged between a negative and positive electrodes, generates power by having hydrogen molecules in contact with a catalyst for a fuel cell contained in the negative electrode, and at the same time, by having oxygen in contact with a catalyst for a fuel cell contained in the positive electrode. The catalyst for the fuel cell is an alloy of Pt 40 with at least a kind of elements out of the group VIII 41 and Al 42 added. Iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni) or the like fall in the group VIII elements 41.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
