PURPOSE:To execute a high degree filtration treatment by the whole part of the filter material of the filter layer consisting a floatable filter material provided densely and closely under an upper surface supporting plate and constituting a fixed bed. CONSTITUTION:In this upward stream type biological filter device in which the filter layer 11 consisting of the floatable filter material sticking microorganisms is provided in a filter tank 10 and a feed water and air are supplied to the filter layer 11 by upward stream, the floatable packed layer 18 consisting of the floatable packing material having larger grain size and heavier specific weight than the filter material is provided under the filter layer 11.
