The invention relates to a device for externally short-circuiting two electrodes (3, 4) of a gas-filled surge protector (1), comprising an elastic clip (11) in the form of an open ring (11), which is placed onto the isolator (2) between the two electrodes (3, 4) and one end (13) of which together with two plates (14, 15) attached on either side of the clip forms the short-circuiting jumper (12). A spacer device (20) made of meltable material and inserted between the jumper and isolator keeps the plates (14, 15) at a radial distance to the electrodes (3, 4). This type of surge protector is especially suited for arranging in cassette units designed to hold a plurality of such surge protectors.
