The coupling device uses permanent magnets (4) incorporated in one half of the coupling device, facing a permanent magnet (10) incorporated in the other half of the coupling device. The magnetic polarity of the permanent magnets can be reversed via associated coil windings (14,15), supplied with current for coupling or uncoupling the cooperating coupling halves.
