摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device of the vertical alignment ECB system of high contrast. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with a pair of substrates 2 and 7 and a liquid crystal layer 5 clamped by the pair of the substrates and the pair of the substrates are provided with a pair of electrode groups 9, 10 and 11 for impressing an electric field to the liquid crystal layer 5 and alignment layers 3 and 6 for aligning the liquid crystal molecule of the liquid crystal layer 5 almost vertically to a substrate surface between the pair of the electrode groups and the liquid crystal layer 5. A light shielding layer 13 for not transmitting light is formed on one of the pair of the substrates 2 and 7, the liquid crystal alignment ability of the alignment layer of an area light shielded by the light shielding layer 13 is controlled by light irradiation and it is provided with photodissociation reactivity. The area light shielded by the light shielding layer 13 of the alignment layers 3 and 6 is the alignment layers 3 and 6 to which a linearly polarized light irradiation processing is performed and the light shielded part is provided with plural tilt angles.
