Laminating tool manufacture by building up fiber reinforcing layers on weak preform produced by stereolithography

Manufacturing a laminating tool uses a stereolithographic method to produce a preform to which a mold release agent is applied followed by a gel coat, resin and fiber mixture and further protective layer. A stereolithographic method is used to produce a preform (1) with a positive shaped surface (5) corresponding to the tool to be produced. After applying a release agent (10) to the preform surface a protective layer (20), e.g. a gel coat, is applied and hardened followed by a resin and fiber mixture (30) and a further protective layer. The resin is then cured and the tool removed (40) from the preform.
