PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery with superior safety, under a high temperature condition at overcharging. SOLUTION: A polar plate group, on which a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 3 are wound with a separator 4 is sealed in a case 5 together with a non-aqueous electrolyte added with an aromatic additive, such biphenyl. In the separator 4 between the pole plates, all pore volume after the separator is pretreated at 120 deg.C in the atmosphere for 15 minutes in the state that a tensile load of 25 kg/cm<2> is imparted to the separator is made to 0.3 to 1.5 cm<3> /g.
