The contacts (5, 8) are specially positioned on the clothing item (2) and vehicle so that when they are in use, they are in contact with or close to each other, enabling an electrical connection to be formed between them. The heating element (4) in the clothing item is supplied with electricity via a contact (5) on the item which cooperates with a contact (8) connected to a power supply (6) in the vehicle, so that the inside of the item is heated.
