PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and device of a magnetic recording medium which can detect whether fluctuation of thickness of a formed magnetic coating film has exceeded an allowable value in real time by monitoring pressure fluctuation of a pump which supplies a magnetic application liquid to an application head and can raise a manufacturing yield of the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In a method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium by applying magnetic application liquid on a surface of a web 4 running continuously by an extrusion type application head 1, this manufacturing method for the magnetic recording medium is characterized by; generating a pressure detection signal by detecting the pressure of the magnetic application liquid supplied from the pump 3 by a pressure sensor 10; amplifying the pressure detection signal by an amplifier 11; extracting a pressure fluctuation signal of a predetermined frequency band from the amplified pressure detection signal by a band-pass filter 12; converting the obtained pressure fluctuation signal into a direct current signal; comparing the pressure fluctuation signal which is converted into the direct current signal and a threshold level; and issuing an alarm when the pressure fluctuation signal is over the threshold level.
