A membrane including two different polymers, a membrane including three different polymers, a method of preparing the membranes, and a method of controlling physical properties of the membranes are provided. A membrane comprises a microporous sheet made of a blend of a first ultra high molecular weight polyethylene having a first molecular weight and a second ultra high molecular weight polyethylene having a second molecular weight, wherein the first molecular weight and the second molecular weight are greater than 1 million and are different from each other. The membrane has 6.3 or greater of an intrinsic viscosity. The intrinsic viscosity is 7.7 or greater. The first ultra high molecular weight polyethylene having the first molecular weight has an intrinsic viscosity(IV) ranged from 7 to 15. The second ultra high molecular weight polyethylene having the second molecular weight has an intrinsic viscosity(IV) equal to or greater than 15. The membrane has at least one characteristics selected from the group consisting of: a thickness less than 5 mils(125 microns); a porosity of 25 to 85%; an average pore size of 0.01 to 0.5 microns; a puncture strength of 300 gr-force/mil(25 microns) or greater; a MacMullin Number of 6 to 15; a Gurley Number less than 60 sec/10 cc/mil; and combinations thereof.
