An optical multi-layered structure, an optical switching device and an image display are provided to change the refraction amount, the transmission amount and an absorbing amount of incident light by changing a size of a gap portion between a first light absorbing layer and a second transparent layer of the optical multi-layered structure. A substrate or a transparent substrate(10) is formed of a light absorbing material which does not transmit incident light. A first transparent layer(11) is formed of a material with a low refractive index. A second transparent layer(13) is formed of a material with a high refractive index. A gap portion(12) is provided between the substrate and the first transparent layer or between the first transparent layer and the second transparent layer, and has a variable size which can cause optical interference. The first and second transparent layers are stacked sequentially on the substrate or the transparent substrate formed of the light absorbing material.
