The thread cutting head (1) has an elongated cutting thread held in a base body (2) of the thread cutting head. A clamping device for the cutting thread is arranged in the base body. The clamping device comprises a clamping body movable about a pivot bolt. The clamping surface of the clamping device and the storage of the pivot bolt are formed on a common component which is a U-shaped bracket. The clamping body lies between the side pieces of the bracket. The clamping body is mounted in the side piece ends of the pivot bolt. The clamping surface is formed at the bar of the U-shaped bracket.
