SO2 and O in flue gas are reacted with a Na2SO3-satd. Na2CO3 slurry to form Na2SO4 crystals that are sepd. and reduced by C at 650-750≦̸C to Na2S. The Na2S is reacted with NaHCO3 at 400-450 psi and 200≦̸C to produce Na2CO3 and H2S. The H2S is used in the claus process. Part of the Na2CO3 is used to replenish the Na2CO3 slurry and the remained is added to a NaHCO3-satd. soln. to form CO2 and NaHCO3 which is sepd. and recycled for reaction with the Na2S.
