PURPOSE:To investigate the soil in a sampling tube without requiring skillfulness, etc., by judging the soil by an arithmetic processor according to the density and chromaticity of the soil and knowing the soil instantaneously at an actual site. CONSTITUTION:An extraction distance measuring instrument 3, a density measuring instrument 4, a chromaticity measuring instrument 5, and an N-value measuring instrument 5 are located at the periphery of the sampling tube 1. Then a core 2 is measured by the respective measuring instruments through grooves 1a and 1b formed lengthwise in the peripheral wall. A gamma-ray density meter is used as a density meter 4 and a measurement signal corresponding to the density of the core 2 is outputted as the tube 1 is extracted. Further, a color TV camera is used for the chromaticity measuring instrument 5 and the chromaticity of the core 2 is discriminated to output a measurement signal as the tube 1 is extracted. A Computer 8 compares the signals outputted by the density measuring instrument 4 and chromaticity measuring instrument 5 with data inputted as to the soil previously to judge the soil corresponding to the extraction distance.
