The solenoid has a coil carrier (14) wound with a coil winding (15) connected to coil terminals (16) incorporated in the coil carrier. The voltage surge absorber (13) is mechanically attached to the coil carrier and/or the coil terminals so that its terminals (18b, 18c) are brought into electrical contact with the latter. Pref. the device has a resin coil carrier with a flange at either end of the winding space, the coil terminals projecting perpendicular to the coil axis from one of these flanges, to which the voltage shock absorber is attached so that its projecting terminals fit in locating openings provided by the coil terminals. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prevents disconnection between voltage surge absorber and solenoid upon explosion or failure due to faulty matching to rated voltage, while allowing replacement of defective absorber.
