Compound safety glass section separation - uses twist and swing movements on clamped glass material with focussed heat applied along separation line to melt the centre plastics film

To separate compound safety glass, with at least two panes bonded together over their whole surface areas by a plastics film, the glass material is fed pref. horizontally into a working plane and positioned, and then clamped on both sides of the required separating line. Pref. at the same time, the upper and lower panes are marked along the line. A swing movement is applied to the glass, pref. downwards, to overcome the shear strength, and break the glass along the marked line. A further swing movement, in the opposite direction, similarly breaks the other pane along the marked line. A concentrated convection heat is applied along the break line to fuse the unbroken plastics film in a cutting and welding action. The severed parts are moved against each other and back, pref. in the working plane. The clamps are released and the separated glass sections removed. Also claimed is an appts. with a machine frame (1) and a horizontal work table (14), and a glass laying table (2) which pivots (3) at the frame (1) and slides horizontally. A gantry (12) rigidly mounted at the work table (14) has a clamping beam to hold the glass against the table (14) and a gantry (10) at the laying surface (2) has a clamping beam to hold the glass section to be separated. A mechanism swings the glass laying table (2) on an axis (3) at the frame (1), and mechanism twists the glass laying table (2) at one end. The glass material is swung by 1-2 deg. at the straight joining line between the glass sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is for separating required sections of compound safety glass. The operation is simple, without fire or other risks, to separate safety glass sections as required, even in small sizes, without damage to the environment or evaporated solvents escaping.
