The aromatic polyamide pulp contain homo- or copolymer with repeat units of formular (I) or (II), where R1-R3 is one of aromatic groups and X is H, Cl, Br, I, C1-4 alkyl or alkoxy. The pulp is obtained by (i) preparing polymerizing solvent by adding a Lewis acid to an amide or urea organic solvent, or a mixture, (ii) obtaining an anisotropic liquid crystal polymer solution prior to gelation by dissolving an aromatic diamine in the above solvent and adding an aromatic diacid chloride, (iii) maintaining the solution at a set temperature for a set time, and (iv) separating solvent and pulverising the polymer by a pulping machine. High mol. wt. pulps are prepared without employing additional pulping processes, and environmental pollution is reduced by not using toxic tert.-amines. |
