PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable process for the production of a diaryl carbonate by the decarbonylation reaction of a diaryl oxalate in the presence of a decarbonylation catalyst, especially an industrial process for producing a diaryl carbonate in high conversion and selectivity by using the diaryl oxalate and the decarbonylation catalyst in a state free from influence on the decarbonylation reaction. SOLUTION: A diaryl carbonate is produced by the decarbonylation reaction of a diaryl oxalate in the presence of a decarbonylation catalyst. A diaryl oxalate having controlled contents of aromatic hydroxy compounds, alkyl aryl oxalates, water and the like is used as the raw material. As an alternative, a diaryl oxalate having controlled water content and contained in a raw material mixture containing the diaryl oxalate and the decarbonylation catalyst is used as the raw material. |
