PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of performing design considering productivity and more reducing the outside dimension of a liquid crystal display panel without changing the display screen size of the liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal display element in which a first substrate and a second substrate are allowed to adhere with a sealing agent SL formed at the edge part of the first substrate and the second substrate and liquid crystal LC is enclosed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The second substrate of the liquid crystal display element is provided with a second glass substrate, a color filter layer FIL formed on the second glass substrate and a protective film OC formed over the entire surface of the second substrate on the color filter layer FIL. A groove part MZ is formed by removing the protective film OC at the edge part of the second substrate in a frame shape and the sealing agent SL is provided inside the groove part MZ.
