Laser beams are used to produce a light screen (5) which is visible to the pilot. The screen serves as an orientation aid for the landing approach. The screen can be aligned with the aircraft, and its direction changed so that it marks the gliding path at an approach angle to the runway. The screen may be fan-shaped in one plane, inclined to the final position at the approach angle.
