PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large varistor voltage by causing an oxide phase containing rare earth element, bismuth, antimony and oxygen to exist in a fired body containing zinc oxide as a principal component. SOLUTION: A non-linear voltage resistor includes a fired body containing zinc oxide as a principal component and at least bismuth oxide and antimony oxide as sub components to which firing is performed after an oxide of rare earth element is added, with an oxide phase containing bismuth, antimony and rare earth element existing in the crystal structure of the fired body. The rare earth element is selected from yttrium, holmium, erbium, and ytterbium. An oxide R2 O3 of the rare earth element is contained in the entire composition at a rate of 0.5mol%, where R represents the rare earth element. In this non- linear voltage resistor, the oxide phase exists on the grain boundary within the fired body. Thus, the crystal grain diameter of zinc oxide may be made fine, and a large varistor voltage may be obtained.
|
